EU targets social media to protect children, Von der Leyen says

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced new rules to protect children from addictive designs of social media platforms like TikTok and Meta.
The new Digital Fairness Act will ban manipulative practices, addictive features, and misleading influencer marketing.
The Commission may propose a minimum age for platform access this summer.
The EU is already investigating TikTok, X, Instagram, and Facebook under the Digital Services Act.
Von der Leyen stated that the question is not whether young people should have access to social media, but whether social media should have access to young people.
