Researcher Sam Potozkin created a life-sized functional replica of C-3PO’s head that uses AI to listen and respond. The head was 3D-printed, hand-sanded, and painted with a metallic gold finish and clear protective coat. The internal system runs on a Raspberry Pi 5 with autonomous AI, a microphone, and an exciter that uses the head shell for sound. Software converts speech to text, processes it with a language model, and returns a response using a voice model inspired by the original character. All code and 3D files are publicly available on GitHub with detailed documentation.
